Maldives Day 1

After a 10 hour flight from London to Colombo, Sri Lanka and an hour flight from Colombo to Male, Maldives, we had finally made it! However, we still had to get to the island we were staying at. Ellaidhoo. An hour and a half speed boat ride or 25 minute sea plane ride. We went by speed boat. And it wasn’t too bad! In fact, we even had a power nap on the boat. When we arrived to the island, the water was everything you see in pictures. Bright blue and so clear!

The resort is called Ellaidhoo Maldives by Cinnamon. When you step off the dock, you walk up to their welcome center. It is all sand floors. The friendly staff welcomes you with a cold, crisp fruity drink and a cold, wet towel to relax and wipe your face off with. A gentleman takes your luggage to your room while another leads you on a tour which ends at your room. At the resort, we opted for all inclusive and any extras we opted in for were charged to our room and paid the day before departure.

Once we took our tour, we headed to our bungalow. This trip we stayed in an Overwater Bungalow. There are a lot of Maldive resorts which offer this arrangement. Our island was situated in the North Ari Atoll and was right beside the reef. Gorgeous. Since we arrived around 4pm, we had little daylight as sunset starts around 6 pm, and it is fully dark by 7 pm.

The resort had an infinity pool that overlooked the clear water and was situated in the middle of the bungalows. Those staying in the bungalows had their own restaurant and bar. Breakfast was served 7:30am-9:30am. Lunch from 12:30pm-2:30pm. and Dinner from 7:30pm-9:30pm. All of these were buffet style.

Before dinner we walked around a little bit. But when it came time for dinner, we hurried up and ate, then went to bed. We were exhausted! Day 2 on the island had a lot more activities! I felt bad as it was Ben’s birthday, but we had some fun things planned to celebrate it all week!
